About Me:
I am from Top City! (Topeka) Kansas and graduated from Topeka High in 2005. As a big hobby I collect many different things including pins, pens, world currencies, stamps, autographs, keys, Asian artifacts, and many other random objects.  I love to travel to places I’ve never been, but I also like visiting familiar destinations.  I’ve always had a love for life and people in general.  This is why I chose Communication as my major, and Sociology as a minor: Everyone has their own story to tell, and each one is important.  Some activities I participated in during high school were baseball, debate/forensics, theatre, and I played in the drumline for marching band. Some interests change when you move on to college, but fortunately I’ve still had the opportunity to play tenors in the ESU Drumline.  If there is any kind of advice I could give to incoming students, it would be this: get involved in as many things as you can. Don’t over-work yourself, but rather find a “happy” medium between work and play.  If you haven’t learned already, the world works through moderation and balance.

Why Emporia State?
I love the fact that Emporia is a small college town; it’s not a huge place where you’re just another number in the crowd.  However, it is a good college town so if you’re searching for something, odds are you’ll find it. For me, it was perfect on many levels: tuition costs are very affordable, the distance to Topeka is manageable, and one of the most important aspects – the teacher to student ratio is ideal for a good learning environment.  On top of all of that, Emporia State gave me the chance to meet the love of my life while doing something I’m passionate about, making music.

Best aspects of Emporia State?
Besides the small class sizes (and believe me, it works to your benefit) I think the amount of opportunities are endless. Some people say, “Oh, small universities don’t offer as many areas of interest.”  At ESU it’s the exact opposite.  When you combine a lower student population with countless choices for courses and activities, the end result is a multitude of metaphorical doors that can easily be opened.  A wise person once told me, “The key is this: take as many different directions, for your one path in life.”
